Sympathetic as I am towards Zhu here I’m still hoping this doesn’t turn into another arc of Theron being in the wrong and not being considerate enough of his friends. (Murd and the PvP team, Vedrana and the old guild, Lys and the arena strat…) He just happens to live in a world where saying “I’d rather not” means just that and not “You’re less of a human being and not worthy to speak to me.” Glad him and Zhu are talking now though and she’s not stonewalling him over accusing her of going “Sic him, Lys!” Which considering the passive aggressive move with the flasks he’s not out of his mind for assuming.
And as grey (and incredibly believable) as this whole thing has been I do think he owes her a thank you for keeping their problems between the two of them and not playing the victim and turning anyone against him.
Sidenote… this is vanilla right? I’ve never seen them on flying mounts before so I’m guessing that tower has stairs but I’d find it way funnier if it was a spot you had to glitch your way up too with only one way down! (Not the Hearthstone!)
Murd in the PVP team….when Theron went out of his way to teach Murd PVP techniques. Vedrana and the old guild….when Theron tried to loot the guild vault, and DID lead a mass desertion of Orhan’s guild. Lys and the arena strat…when, even though he truly hated what his part on the team was, he still chose to stick it out with Murd and Lys.
Seeing a pattern here? Theron CAN be considerate of others feelings. He just need to work a bit harder than others to get there.
This is my interpretation as well. I think it really is a matter of different personality types not quite understanding each other, and I very much hope things can be sorted out now. So often irl, the thing we think we’re saying isn’t what the other person is hearing.
Sidenote – Keran apparently predicted how Theron would react, but we’ve seen no further comment from her since then nor any details about her thoughts on the matter. We know Keran is friendly and helpful, and since she didn’t see fit to interfere, perhaps she told Zhusen that the best thing to do would be to talk to Theron directly?
Theron needs to understand that Zhusen isn’t doing this to be in the spotlight, and that not acting as a friend means not getting friend perks. It’s kinda simple.
Aww, Zhu. It’s a useful reminder how much energy, thinking, and complex feelings have gone into her effort to come out. The experience of coming out (and being out, period) can be a bit like an iceberg – there is a lot going on under the surface. I’m thrilled to see this represented compassionately.
why does every one think Theron’s an Arse? he’s apparently the most mature about Zhusen coming out. he see’s nothing having changed about Zhusen, She’s still her. Gender doesn’t really matter when your still you. Theron isn’t treating Zhusen any differently than before, and to be Fair, not wanting to be involved in online drama is the adult thing to do. Good for you Zhusen, were all proud of you for coming out, and trusting with this big, life changing experience. Theron is the only person that doesn’t care that your a different gender, it didn’t change who you are, and why should you expect to be treated any differently by him?
I don’t think it’s that “Theron is the only person who doesn’t care” that she’s a different gender, it’s that Theron was the only person to not show support and interest, and directly avoided talking about it. Theron cares more than everyone else and to Zhu, his insistence on avoiding the issue appears to be out of non-support. You’d expect your friends to support you, hence how their friendship was redefined a few strips back.
I agree. Its a pretty big miscommunication, but the sort of miscommunication that HAPPENS. So kudos to Robin for making a believable and realistic story about it. What they probably needed to do, despite Therons wishes, was hash it out. Which is what it seems they’re doing, finally.
I like that its gone from “theron’s right” “zhusen’s right” and “they’re both right” to “fuck me, stop it you dumb idiots, you’re friends”

It’s not easy being green.

Love this whole thing, so well written. <3

Agreed! Tbh I am loving this arc so much.
