I mean, he’s being an annoying dick, but he doesn’t know he’s being annoying; IIRC Vedrana never told him his attitude was unwelcome. In fact, the strats were clearly working, so Daranger thinks of himself as doing good and helping the group. Then Vedrana suddenly snaps and kicks him from the group for (from his perspective) no reason at all.
As someone with limited social skills, I could absolutely be in Daranger’s shoes at some stage, and I imagine our reactions would be the same: “If this was such a problem, why couldn’t you have just TOLD me in the first place?”
But of course, this is part of Vedrana’s character arc; learning that she can assert herself without being aggressive.
Yeah, I think that Vedrana should have warned him, and if he ceased and desisted, well he’s probs an alright guy. If he kept going, well. And I think she’s a bit tender about passing leadership, since the whole whorehan thing, but he couldn’t have known that.
Right – except they haven’t been using his strats, they’ve been using his pointless – or lazy – additions to her strats. Skull instead of Cross? Cleric CC’s instead of the hunter? Melee keep moving instead of the ranged?
His views are classic “only see the fight from my own perspective”. Sure, the fight may be easier/better…for RANGED. Meanwhile everyone else is having to interrupt their flow to move. And as a tank or healer, that can be deadly in a boss fight
I’d disagree: melee are way more able to DPS on the move and tanks have never given two shits about moving the boss. Plus there’s two ranged players and only one melee. We don’t know about RoQ’s balancing to we can’t say which is objectively better but tank moving >>> healer moving 99% of the time. It’s entirely possible either of them is right. We do not have sufficient information to say either way. From my reading he’s correct and knowledgeable about the game but lacks the social skills to lead without annoying people.
I almost agree with that except in the last strip he wanted the cleric to banish instead of himself trapping. Now assuming the cleric is the healer and not also ranged dps then it seems he just wants an easier time for himself as the healers main goal should be just healing and only banishing when things get really hairy and can’t keep up with healing.
“i disagree even though we dont know enough to know whos right. ”
Either way it doesnt matter. the actual limitations of hte game is just plot devices for the plot. the main thing here is the Lack of Communication vs egocentric player syndrome.
Basically they are both wrong and you know that easily via meta information. The author is skilled and the “good ” guy is the protagonist. People confuse “i’ll have my protagonists do this” for “i approve of this behavior”. He’s having the protagonist do this because while its RELATABLE its ultimately going to cause problems which creates the story. The protag is a good hearted but human person with character flaws like anyone else. And so lo and behold put her with a self centered character who obviously knows what he’s talking about but has no courtesy will continue the main character plotline of the protagonist balancing her “fun time” game with “that game exposing her to annoying inconvenient
people”
Having played Rogue as my main for most of my MMO life I fully agree melee rarely has issue fighting on the move(barring the occasional cooldown that is more stationary). Tanks also don’t have much issue moving the boss…if the boss is built with the tanks moving it in mind. As I said, this guy is tossing out strats purely from the point of view of his own class and making it so he has to do less work without considering how much work it makes everyone else have to do to pick up the slack.
By what I’ve picked up from the conversation, this boss is one of those where melee and tanks can’t avoid damage, so you want them bunched and still to AoE heal. Ranged can likely move to avoid damage, making the healer’s job to focus on the unavoidable stuff.
My first time through here (five years later XD) I’m getting the same vibe, that he’s just an obnoxious Theron-lite who wants to basically make his own job as easy as possible, “because others can do it”.
Also, yeah, keeping the melee+tanks in one general area for AoE heals is good, and also in the case of AoE DoTs, not having the tank kite the boss across half the room is beneficial.
*Depending upon the game and the player skill, strategies can vary. I’ve seen the tank who can heal themselves solo through an entire tank and spank… and the cloth wearing dps tank, etc. My thoughts would be that Vedrana and Daranger should have a talk, discuss ideas fully, and note a better option for communication when Daranger has an idea.*
Robert: Master of compromise
I know what you mean. As a healer, I’ve had runs where I’ve only needed to keep the dps alive. That’s it, because the tank was so exceptional that they took next to no damage, and immediately healed it back. (Alternatively, tanks with less health than me and wielding a staff, as well as dps in heavy armour)
But yeah, it all depends on the circumstances, and in an ideal situation, they should be communicating and considering eachother’s ideas, but also with respect to Vedrana, since she’s not only group leader but guild leader.
I miss the days where stuff like that happened more often. I started WoW back in Burning Crusade, where rogues could get a high enough dodge rating with a little work to actually be able to tank. One even main tanked the whole of Black Temple (Bumblebee will always be a legend among my class 🙂 ).
Hardcore PVPers are all egotistical douchebags, but hardcore PVErs are insufferable human beings who think killing a set AI before anyone else makes them hot shit. This translates into everything. They can’t do ANYTHING that isn’t “optimized.”
The floodgates of her rage have been opened.
Now this is a surprise, I had him pegged for a Lleggollass.
Legomyeggolas
One of my guildies has a warrior alt named Leggomyaggro.
I feel sorry for Daranger here.

Also to note, they’ve been using his strats successfully for several dungeons as well; he has a track record in the group, as far as he can see.

Coming back to this years later, I find it hilarious that this entire discussion occurred with just Keran avatars, lol

Ah yes, intervention time is needed again…
