Or you could, you know… read a book? Play on your phone? Start up a single player game on another screen? Summon dread entities to harass the developers in their dreams? Just something to pass the time.
The problem I always have with waiting is that I DO go get a book or a single player game to enjoy. Then I get into it, start going “just one more chapter/level” and the next thing I know not only is the wait over, but I sat in the character select so long that it kicked me back out again for inactivity.
Patches give me similar problems. My sister got me Wildstar for Christmas a while back, and while I enjoyed the game it felt like every time I started it up some small patch or improvement was out. That’s good for the game, but my internet is so slow that that’s 5-10 minutes of waiting, so I grab something else to do and never actually get around to playing Wildstar.
This is still applicable five years later in New World XD
(The irony is, it’s run by Amazon, who, ya know, also runs Amazon Web Services which makes a huge deal about their ability to dynamically meet surges in demand. I’m guessing the AWS team and Game Studios team don’t talk much)
If you’re feeling frustrated over a 20min queue, think on the bright side, at least it’s not a 20+hrs Archeague queue.
*Cough* Warlords of Draenor *Cough* *Cough*
Someone’s feeling a little nihilistic today. I approve.
After 2016’s murderous rampage, it’s to be expected. Happy freakin’ New Year, everyone. 😉
O irony, how you fly under the radar.
